From Neale Donald Walsch
On this day of your life, dear friend, I believe God wants you to know...
...that it is not necessary for you to report everyone's mistakes to them, much less to give them corrections.
It can be difficult, when you think you know a better way to door say something, to keep that to yourself. But try.
Unless someone's life or safety depends on it, do try.
You would not welcome someone else pointing out your own misstep, or less-than-totally-efficient approach to something. Why point it out to them? Do you see it as your duty in life to make sure that all goes the way you think it 'should'?
That would be an inaccurate assessment of your soul's grander purpose.

Great Quote
Came across this quote today, and think that is the quote I was looking for all these years.
"You are not responsible for what people think about you,
But you are responsible for what you give them to think about you"
The lesson is simple. You can’t control what people think but how you behave, how you talk and how you make decision are the major influence of how public perceived you.
(Disclaimer: Of course, when I write things, I am not preaching about certain of you guys or the public figures but rather on the collection of series of events that happened around me and how have I found myself been behaving/thinking/talking that major and/or minor improvisation can be done)
While I am a believer that each human is entitled to behave the one wants to behave, I also believe that each negative energy is like a drop of mud in a pail of water. The more you put it in, the more polluted the water will become. Installing positive energy is actually a hard practice, especially when you or rather I am allowing the people and events around me creating the negativity. Not that I can run out of the negatives, but I should be building a wall of constant filtering.

God
I have not given myself some time to mull over the current issue of the Court’s approval of a Catholic publication of using the word of Allah.
Two groups, the Christian and the Moslem have been fighting over on what is right and what is not.
The Moslem felt that their possession and their sole right of the word of Allah is being taken away.
The Christian felt that using the word Allah is just taking a word means God in Arabic to the English language.
Then the Moslem felt that if you want to take the word in Arabic, why Allah, why could you take ar-Rabb which means God? That the God has a name in Islam and the name is Allah. That the Moslems never take the world Jesus as the God’s name because Jesus is simply the name of a Prophet.
Some says it is a political agenda, that some big guns wants to be seen as the martyr of Islamic society in order to win more of Malay’s vote in the coming public election.
Some ponders on why a non Moslem was chosen to judge the proceeding.
Many compares the situation over the Peninsular of Malaysia and the Indonesia and East Malaysia’s Christian teaching where the word of Allah has been used in replacement of God.
Let me type over the implications of the new ruling. You may see these sentences in the Christian publications:
As Jesus as my Allah, …
As Allah exist in the Holy spirit, ….
Those two sentences as above are enough to stir the Malay particularly and the Moslem at large.
And you may see these sentences in the Moslem publications:
The Jesus a.s. was born in Nazareth and had promised that the final prophet i.e. Muhammad p.b.u.h shall be born later.
The sentence as above is not going to stir the Christian since they believe that Jesus is actually the God and they denied the existence and prophecy of Muhammad p.b.u.h.
One ethnic group is stirred and another one is not.
Question is, why is the Moslem stirred?
As a child born in a Moslem society, I was raised to think that Green is my color, Half Moon is my symbol. Therefore when the bad monster or alien is colored in green in any of the cartoon, I was given the impression that the colorist is trying to make the people think bad of the Green consequently to think bad of Islam. In some cases, I heard, the rural areas kids were forbidden to speak English because their parents thought that proficiency in English shall ensure the kids to read the Bible and hence, could get themselves converted easily.
There was I, a Moslem child, heavily protected.
I was taught how to pray 5 times a day, how to fast and read the Quran using the Arabic language. But nobody spoke of me about the syahadah and what it means. I recited the 3-Quls before I went to bed but wasn’t explained about what it meant by the God has no mother, has no son. Explanation was never given to me.
Because explanation will rouse curiosity and for a 7-year old, the curiosity is thought to endangering her belief.
Just when I had my first roommate who is Christian, then I understand that why the Quran repeatedly explained about the onenesss of Allah, that God has no Mother nor Son, he was not born from someone and neither gave birth to someone. You see, I understand a lot more about my God, my Quran and my own religion from other people’s religion’s point of view.
From her copy of Bible, I then understood the concept of Trinity. Really, when I was small, I tough the trinity concept is the statue by the Hindu of one man and three heads. I never thought it is a fraction of my own Religion’s history.
So why wasn’t I briefed about the concept of Christianity since I was small eventhough it was clearly repeated in the Quran? Why was I forbidden from asking question about what are the differences of Nasara and the Jewish? Was it because people don’t have enough explanation? Was it because the topic was a taboo to me? If it has no explanation and if it indeed is a taboo, why was it mentioned in the Quran?
Was I too small to understand?
Why my brain capacity and faith was was underestimated?
Back to topic that stir the nation. I don’t want to write about what is wrong and what is not. You place these two ethnics in the different country, the different outcome will arise. But I do know what is wrong. Wrong is when I heavily protect my kids from all the taboo. By not educating them about the differences of all the other faiths, I expose them to the possibility of their aqidah (faith) to the oneness of God being shaken. They must start young. They must learn about their God from their Book i.e the Holy Quran, not from someone else’s. They must not be confused of who is God and what is the name of their God.
Wrong is when I refuse to answer all their questions and instead, turn away and said, ‘Tak baik Tanya soalan macam tu’ (it’s not nice for you to question that issue).
I will not protect my kids. Their defence system gotta be built from young. They have to be exposed of the existence of other gods in the world, the existence of other faith, other beliefs. From then on, if I die, and if they are forced to live in an environment where there’s nobody to protect them, they can stand on their own and tell them repeatedly, ‘There’s no God but Allah, and he is the only God, and he is neither Mothered nor Mothering, and Muhammad is the Messenger’.
In this country where the politicians play their games out publicly, the kids' defence system is the only way out.

Welcoming 2010. (i need to freshen up)
I am dragging and wrangling my feet over the 1st Jan 2010. And it is already 2nd January. Unlike last New Year, I was very optimistic and ready-to-go, listing things I want to further achieve and listing , proudly, things I have achieved.
Things in 2009 were not that smooth. Well, let’s review so that I can quickly shake off every fatigue satan (yeah yeah great, blame the horny guy) is trying to pour into my brain.
Achievement No. q (and frustration)
I managed to supplement Anna with the best food in the world, the breast milk. Well, I didn’t get to achieve the target of two-year since I was found preggy when she was just over 1 year. Resources have been said that it was okay to still breastfeed the baby when one is preggy but I couldn’t stand the sleep-deprived nights. Mornings during my first semesters were painful, eyes were groggy and I couldn’t concentrate while driving at 6:30 a.m. through the Sungai Besi Highway. That was dangerous and provided me a very valid reason to decide to stop. We weaned her off and she quickly adjusted within three nights. I shed tears. Felt nothing but helpless. How I wish that I could easily take the morning off and left work…
Achievement No. 2 (and further frustration)
I managed to get all the unfinished contracts signed. Well, I didn’t work fast enough to get the approval of my boss. He haunted me, literally, sweeping off all the other mistakes I did into this one big bundle and carried the big sack on his back. He was like a big ferocious bear, ready to sink in his tooth and claws into my flesh everytime I tried to open my mouth on all things. Firstly, I felt that he was just disappointed that I didn’t turn out to be what he expected to be, that is to be him. He was disappointed that I wasn’t careful enough and kept making all the mistakes. I then was disappointed because I felt that I was never good enough to be the ‘child’ that he longed/dreamed of creating. He was disappointed in me. I was disappointed in myself.
I was done giving excuses, mostly to myself. I was done thinking that why should I be blamed in being late finishing other people’s job?
People around me gave opinion on the situation. Some said I was already compensated by him giving me the promotion about 1.5 years ago. Some said I was not to be blamed, that he is a changed man. Some said why should I be blamed on all the mistakes that occur, that is my better-paid Senior Manager or General Manager that should be standing up to the mistakes. But what one tiny boy said to me while I was talking to his dad shook me off, “Kenapa mommy selalu kena marah dekat work mommy?”.
That was it. My son ended it.
Towards the year-end, I was done being disappointing of myself. I got praised by other department’s head, other company’s head but not by the man who groomed me for the past 9 years. I was over it. I was over living a life trying to meet his expectation. Perhaps he groomed a wrong person. Perhaps I was not destined to be him, to think like him, to make decision like his.
So far those are the only two achievements in 2009.
Other than that,
I paused. Taking a pee break.
Oh yeah.. how could I forget that my performance score was slashed down, coming down to one band down. A guy friend caculated the amount of bonus (I mean monetarily) I should be getting before and after the moderation. It is near to RM2k, people. It was mean. It was meaner if you know the reason I was moderated down.
The system is beautiful, you got praised by your immediate manager (who knows how you work and how you clean up for all the unfinished business he did). But the bell curve kills it all. The moderation in my department was done without the existence of my immediate manager.
One department was only allowed to have about 2 people having an outstanding score and of around 2 people to have a very bad score. The rest of us should be standing in between. Apparently my department had too many high scorer and 2 non-performers. The department decided that the 2 non performers should be given a chance since they have not been getting the promotion in 5 to 8 years time. (yeah. we are caring people). Therefore, their scores were raised. And to compensate, to make sure that the bell curve is maintained, to make sure that my No. 1 doesn’t have to do much defending when facing the division’s elimination, the high performers were reduced to only a few. And I faced the music.
And do you know who were the average ( I tak sampai hati nak tulis low or non) performers whose score were raised? The people who can easily call the office taking the day off due to medical condition or emergency reason, people whose punch card you will not see full in the whole week, people who left the immediate manager finishing up the jobs they left on the tables. And the person who risk the health of the baby in her womb by gulping down a whole mug of coffee every morning just so that she can drive at 6:40 through sungai besi highway is the one who has to sacrifice for these people.
The RM2K is not the only reason I was pissed. I also found out that by being moderated, I missed out the boat of getting promoted through the faster lane. That it will take 2 more years for me to achieve a RM6.5k salary. A friend switched job and he got an immediate increment of Rm2k salary. Me? I was here and still here and gained my pathetic 4% increment every year.
Yes, when I want to talk about numbers, I WILL talk about the numbers.
When one loses the drive to excel due to lack of pat at the back, it’s only the monetary rewards that one looks for.
I am now not ashamed to say that I do look out for money. That money is what my children need to survive after high school. That money is what I believe I need to get my parents happier.
Money takes over loyalty.
Loyalty to the department I believed was rewarding me in the correct way. Loyalty to the man who groomed me to be the person I am today. Loyalty to the company whom I believed was fighting for the benefit of the good outlook of the economy.
Other than that, 2009 is a year of:
I didn’t get to watch a full season of any series.
Very few blog entries.
Sleep deprived nights.
I didn’t get to read a book (chic lit nor autobiography) a week. I hardly do a book a month.
Spending my own money (berhutang pulak tu) to buy a notebook on my own to do office work both at home and at WORK.
Giving away my desktop to my clerk so that he can work faster.
Avoiding mom talking about her depression.
Defending the choice of sending Azeuchry to the kindy that teaches him solat rather than SmartReader with the Man’s mom.
Going to bed at 9:30 every nights or the children will wake up looking out for mommy.
And also, 2009 is a year of:
Learning how the unit trust works and how can I achieve the target sets for my children’s education fund easier and safer.
Taking mom and dad to shop at Bandung.
Realizing that protection cum investment is slow.
Discovering that doggy is the best position. (yeah that is the best finding of the year)
Founding my skill in baking (and burning) and world of buttercream.
Knowing that my husband looks so much handsome compared to my high school sweetheart or my childhood crush. Not bad eh si sepet yang aku kawin ni.
So I do have some positive things with 2009. Pretty impressive.
My wish for 2010:
I wish that Anna will stop waking up crying two times in a night due to bad dreams.
I wish that Azuechry throws very few tantrums and eats well.
I wish that Azuechry recovers from his asthma forever.
I wish my sinuses problem go away.
I wish that my ammonia-spewed down under stops doing the gross thing every time I sneeze.
I wish that mom and dad are healthy so that I can send them to Perth by August. Make it March.
I wish that I could have a little bit more energy so that I can get up and blog or surf after the kids doze off. (like tonight. tonight is like one of the 6 nights in the past 12 months that I can stay up until 12:00)
I wish I could live without coffee.
My plan for 2010:
1.Must spend everynight with Azeuchry doing homework or Kumon workbook to prove to Man’s mom that I can make my son reads before he starts Primary 1.
2.Must breastfeed the newest member of the family exclusively for her first 6 months. Targetting 2 years before weaning her off.
3.Train the new executives well to take up my job (so that I can go on maternity leave peacefully and perhaps look out for a new job after that)
4.Work as an average person and go back everyday at 5:15 sharp. Make sure that my average target of performance score is met. I am not targeting the highest score anymore knowing I will be slashed down later.
5.Completing my resume and submit it to at least three online job seeking website.
6.Ignore the whining colleagues.
7.Stop bickering about the bosses. I have formed my opinion, learned a tough lesson and its time to shut up and move on (my way).
8.Start baking as soon as the nausea goes away.
9.Lose weight after the pregnancy, like I did after I had Anna.
10. Keep hair longer.
Welcome 2010. I shall start slow this year, professionally.
Personally, it’s gonna be a great year of losing prenatal weight and looking hotter in a new bod and new hair!

Feel Like Blogging in Bahasa
Berjumpalah boss anda sendiri sekiranya anda menghadapi masalah memahami arahannya.
Anda hanyalah membina tanggapan awal mereka mengenai tahap professionalisme anda.

Poem for Azam Zikry
Was cleaning up some rubbish when I found the poems I wrote a few years ago
Denganmu anakku, hidup ibarat satu kitaran yang telah lengkap
ibarat syurga dipinjamkan
aku ingin di situ, pegang tanganmu
waktu hari pertama darjah satu
aku ingin di situ, pegang bahumu
waktu kau terpegun melihat cinta hati melintas
aku ingin di situ , waktu menangis, waktu ketawa
waktu debaran akad nikahmu
aku selalu di situ sayangku
harap harap sayang
harimu selalu ceria
rakan alam semesta
masa selalu ada untuk mu capai impian hati
warna selalu ada waktu kau mahu melukis
rakan selalu ada kau kau mahu ketawa
hujan selalu berhenti waktu kau mahu berlari
dan
mommmy selalu ada, setiap masa
mesti ada Manusia yang sayang kita
mesti ada Mamusia yang kita sayang
ada, di mata orang, kitalah wira
ada, di mata kita, merekalah wira
ada Manusia yang hormati kita
ada mereka hati kita hormat
tiada apa lagi yang kita mahu
selain
disayangi
dihormati
disanjung dan diperlukan
dengan kamu anakku
aku rasa semua ini
aku rasa akulah duniamu
kasih ku takkan luntur
hidup aku akan penuh ceria denganmu
Denganmu anakku, hidup ibarat satu kitaran yang telah lengkap
ibarat syurga dipinjamkan
aku ingin di situ, pegang tanganmu
waktu hari pertama darjah satu

The Worst Day at Work
The worst day at work must be this.
You were standing outside your boss's room when he said, "you have been given an opportunity but you have ruined it" and slammed the door right in front of your face.
Then you slowly walked away, knowing that you will never have a chance to explain.
Hmm. nothing could be worse than this.

About Nasha Aziz and the Man Called a Father
Nasha Aziz, the actress was sued RM10k by her biological father.
He sued her for the humiliation she caused him.
Apparently, Nasha was brought up by her uncle who is also named Aziz. When Aziz passed away, she cried over a question from a reporter and said she has lost her only Ayah.
The still-alive Aziz took it personally and further to the court, claiming that he will lose clients over his business of teaching the martial art.
He definitely is not aware that he has lost the daughter years ago. What matters to him is clearing his name from the ‘lies’. And a mere RM10k.
The defamation claim, he believes, shall ‘correct’ the perception of the public that he is NOT a liar. I am glad that he publicly and proudly tell people that he is not a Liar, that he is indeed a Good Man while silently defending the choice he made long time ago.
The choice of letting someone else wakes up in the middle of the night sponging the daughter’s hot feverish body instead of him. The choice not to see the first tooth that came out and the agony the baby is of teething. The choice not to see the first step his own daughter took and catching her when she first fell.
Whatever the reason a baby was given away when she was small, it is still the choice of the biological parents. Whether you were sympathy with the fact that your own sister can’t bear a child, whether it was poverty that you were afraid of while raising the beautiful baby, whether the attention and time can’t be spent on raising the baby correctly, these are all mere reasons.
If the biological parents tried to make up a few years later by taking the given-away child back to the family, nothing can beat the distance of the loss body warmth when the baby went to bed in her early two years.
If the biological parents tried to make up by showering her gifts or lavishing her with the most expensive wedding, nothing can beat the hugs that the baby lost every time she shivered with fright hearing the thunders.
And if the parents tried to show it to the public that it was actually the child who was a bad person, who was rudely kurang hajar, well, it is your dirty laundry, sir, hanging right in front of Padang Merdeka.
En Aziz, I hope the RM10k is enough for you to pay your lawyer. And your lawyer has definitely hung your dirty laundry long enough in the eyes of the public.
I hope you have a good answer when God ask you, what different is this Child to you that made you gave her away? What sin has this Child done that make you have the right to let her suffers through out her childhood and teens thinking of what is wrong with herself that made her parents gave her away? That make you have the right to let her feel inferior over her other biological siblings? That make you have the right to let her suppressed all the sadness and misery she felt of feeling ‘not wanted’?
I hope, as you have paid your lawyer hard money to prove the public, you don’t lie.
And to the judge who said that our society does not accept a person’s denial of the status of another person in the family if they are indeed family, well, you are also in support of a father who had proudly claim to the public that he has, few years ago, denied the right of that child to be loved and hugged everytime she goes to bed.
Nasha to pay dad RM10,000
By LISA GOH
KUALA LUMPUR: The High Court has ordered actress-cum-model Nasha Aziz to pay her biological father Abdul Aziz Mohd Ali RM10,000 in general damages for defaming him.
Abdul Aziz Mohd Ali, 61, succeeded in his bid to get the court to enter judgement on Friday (yesterday) in a defamation suit against his daughter after the actress and her counsel, Rashid Mokhtar, were absent for the hearing of the suit on Wednesday.
In handing down his ruling, Justice Abdul Wahab Patail said the court accepted a father’s right to say that someone is his child, if it was true.
“Our society does not accept a person’s denial of the status of another person in the family if they are indeed family,” he said.
Abdul Aziz therefore had the right to call Nasha his daughter, he said, and if by doing so had caused others to look down on him and call him a liar, then it can be said that the plaintiff had been defamed.
“The court accepts that the plaintiff has proved that he had been defamed when the defendant said ‘I only have one father’,” he ruled.
He then ordered Nasha, whose real name is Noraishah Abdul Aziz, to pay Abdul Aziz RM10,000 in general damages with an 8% interest from March 31, 2005, when the suit was filed, until the matter has been disposed of.
Abdul Aziz, a silat (Malay martial arts) teacher and businessman, is Nasha’s biological father while her uncle, the late Abdul Aziz Hathim, was her “adoptive father.”
He filed the suit on March 31, 2005, claiming that the defamatory words published in Mingguan Malaysia on Oct 24, 2004, quoting Nasha as saying that she only had one father had embarrassed and tortured him.
He also named publisher Utusan Melayu (M) Bhd and its reporter Tengku Khalidah Tengku Bidin as defendants in the case.
In his statement of claim, Abdul Aziz said that the article Jangan Tanya Hal Peribadi (Don’t ask personal questions) contained defamatory words.
Previously, his lawyer M. Visva-nathan had submitted that the article implied his client was dead, but Nasha had contended that the plaintiff had given her to his sister, Habibah Mohd Ali, when she was three months old and that her husband, the late Abdul Aziz Hathim, was ayah (father) to her.
He sued her for the humiliation she caused him.

Kahlil Gibran
Kahlil Gibran
I heard so much about this guy but never get around to do much research.
And while I treasure and recently found more of his quotes are profound statements like,
Exaggeration is truth that has lost its temper.
A friend who is far away is sometimes much nearer than one who is at hand. Is not the mountain far more awe-inspiring and more clearly visible to one passing through the valley than to those who inhabit the mountain?
Doubt is a pain too lonely to know that faith is his twin brother.
Generosity is giving more than you can, and pride is taking less than you need.
Generosity is giving more than you can, and pride is taking less than you need.
I love you when you bow in your mosque, kneel in your temple, pray in your church. For you and I are sons of one religion, and it is the spirit.
If the grandfather of the grandfather of Jesus had known what was hidden within him, he would have stood humble and awe-struck before his soul.
If your heart is a volcano, how shall you expect flowers to bloom?
Sadness is but a wall between two gardens.
We choose our joys and sorrows long before we experience them.
I also found a few that is hard to compromise :
If the other person injures you, you may forget the injury; but if you injure him you will always remember.
Most people who ask for advice from others have already resolved to act as it pleases them.
When we turn to one another for counsel we reduce the number of our enemies.
Kahlil Gibran is actually a Lebanese migrated to the States and a devoted Christian. I like to assume that he wrote most of his poem in Arabic since he called himself a Syrian nationalist and voted for the use of Arabic Language as the national language of Syria. (Syria? Lebanon? gosh I am so dark about that part of the world ..gotta learn more). He however died in a place all of us know by heart, New York.

At the Man's Office
Dear all,
Guess where I am?
At the Man's office. Yes, the Man, my dear husband who has one double lid eye.
The Man's unit shares the floor with another unit whom I think is doing nothing for the company. *Jahatkan aku ni*
Anyway, they are having a buka puasa do and I embraced myself to come (after the Man is invited and he invited me). Just an opportunity for me to get to know the people and what are they doing, actually , for the Company and the betterment of the people's lives in Malaysia.
I haven't figured out much yet.
But the head of the unit, eh tak de le head, the GM, is actually amazing. He is a Toastmaster (Bila la me and the Man nak start our Toastmaster). He acknowledged my Man's presence. Agaknya memang bagus lah this Toastmaster thing. Me and the Man ops sorry The Man and I have been trying to enrol for one and trying we have been for the past 8 years. Hehe.. trying and never really made a move.
Well, another good friend of us, Zul is also in that unit (which I still think does nothing for the company). Zul is apparently the most popular guy in our nets group (the group where we were first recruited by the company). He is doing good, and I am happy. Apparently he was chosen by the management to go for this GLC cross transfer program that will enable him to move to peroton and get new experience there, dengan gaji masih dibayar oleh companyku ini.
I wish to think positively that this cross transfer thing will benefit us.
So, I am out of the Man's nice room (with orange chairs and black leather couch, shit, better than mine) and to mingle around some more.
Oh yes.. tadi masa buka puasa, aku sorang je perempuan duduk di antara lelaki lelaki. Ini yang repeatedly I told people (esp those in melakofberehad) that I am SOOO reluctant to attend this department/ company buka puasa sebab nanti pompuan kena duduk ngan pompuan, laki kena duduk ngan laki. Abih tu, aku ni nak borak ngan sape? PA PA boss korang? Aghh!! And talk about what? Kalau the girls from Planning tu tak pe jugak, lots of things to bitch about.
Adakah aku yang antisocial?
Okay, out to mingle.

I was cleaning up old note books and found this sheet that I titled , "10.6 What I Want to Remember".

Management tips
What is a good absence and what is not?
A good absence is a paid leave away from the office rejuvenating one’s mind or spending quality time with the kids or parents.
What is a not-good abscene , then?
1. A leave taken to run away from problems or avoiding a big important meetings at work. A sign of irresponsibility and immaturity.
2. A leave taken leaving all the papers unsifted on the table. Your first day after the leave will be tougher with all the papers to sift and boss calling you for status report. Make a plan to reroute the letters and memo to you before you take leave.
3. A leave taken and leaving the colleagues finishing up jobs that you are supposed to finish with them having no clues of picking up where you have left. Good project manager will definitely establish of system of leaving the important files archived in a proper and friendly manner.
4. A leave taken to attend to your banking matters. You should play smart by using the internet banking or taking a lunch-break for that matter. If you foresee that the queues at the bank are overwhelming and killing your time, talk to your boss to see whether you can take a 10-oclock one hour break with a promise you will work through the designated lunch hour.
5. Monday, is definitely not a good day to pick up for leave, especially you are the Head of Unit whom to present your sale report and performance and new target on weekly staff meeting on Monday.
6. A leave taken with series of phone calls received from early morning until afternoon. It is definitely not refreshing for you to sip the drink by the beach side while taking all these calls from your clients. Make sure the important people know when are you taking leave and make a plan to reroute all the phone calls to your assistant. Less important calls should not be picked up rather messages shall be left so that you can return them once you are back in the office.

not to be me....
Isn't it wonderful to travel around the world without a care of your work, or whether the lights will go on, or whether the goods will be delivered, or whether the goods delivered will go unused and create sulfur emission to the nearby villages?
Isn't it wonderful not to be me..?
Isn't it wonderful not to be me..?
Gregory Colbert, what a fantastic man

The man behind the lens is Gregory Colbert. He’s also the subject in some of the photographs of this fifteen year-long journey. Colbert can be seen without a breathing apparatus swimming in rhythm with sperm whales. He believes that “nature is an incredible poem and animals are its living masterpieces.” Many in the Western world marvel at Colbert’s work and find it unimaginable that events like this actually take place within nature’s backdrop, but he does not manipulate his art in any way.
“Living with nature is pretty simple really. There’s nothing radical about it,” he says. “If I were to take the hill tribes to a city where there are all these humans, and only a few pigeons, and a dog and cat walking around, that would be unfathomable to them.” The fruits of his exploration led to Ashes and Snow - a multi-media phenomenon of photography, film, architecture, poetry and live installation. It is opening minds to explore what’s out there and eyes to see what’s possible. Sidney Portier said the exhibition is “Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner? with animals. They’re being invited to the table as equals.”
In 1992, Colbert set out to explore the relationship between man and animal from the inside out. He searched for civilizations that don’t view animals as “others.” He says, “There are cultures that survive or are able to exist only by having a very balanced coexistence with other animals, and those cultures tend to treat animals as equals.” He found such places during 46 expeditions and counting to India, Egypt, Myammar, Tonga, Sri Lanka, Namibia, Kenya, Antarctica and more. The work features Burmese monks, trance dancers, hills people, manatees, African wild dogs and caracals among others. Sometimes weeks go by in faraway mountains, jungles and deserts without a single image being taken, but Colbert is profoundly patient and always observant. In the end, he wins the trusts of all his subjects. He believes in the expression and artistic nature of animals and the intrinsic chemistry that’s possible if man and animal can spiritually connect. Colbert says, “My imagination has always been inspired by nature’s vision.”
Frustrated with the barren, white walls of most museums, and “the art that goes there to die,” Colbert wanted to create something original and organic. The idea behind the traveling museum, and the funds that made it possible, came during the first showing of Ashes and Snow in 2002 at the Venice Biennale’s Arsenale. It’s a vast shipyard that dates back to the Renaissance era. Colbert’s solo exhibit was the first to fill up the entire space, and required people to walk a mile from end to end to experience it all. The chairman of Rolex was so inspired by what he saw that he bought all of Colbert’s work on the spot. He encouraged him to use the money to think big, build something amazing and then share it with the world.
Colbert took it from there. He enlisted the help of Japanese avant-garde architect Shigeru Ban to help complete the vision. Ban designed the 56,000 square foot Nomadic Museum building. It is composed largely of recyclable and reusable materials. The walls are constructed from 152 used shipping containers. They are stacked in a checkerboard pattern to create rigid walls. Paper tubing constitutes the roof and columns. Inside, instrumental music guides visitors down a wooden walkway surrounded by 6,000 river stones. A handmade curtain made of one million pressed paper tea bags from Sri Lanka hangs from the ceiling and floats 40 feet from the floor. An hour long film documenting each expedition and the awe behind the photo shoots is projected on a large screen in a theatre section of the museum. Two short haiku films also play at each end of the gallery. The sepia-toned unframed photographs hang suspended in a dreamlike calmness from thin cables and rods. Each image is 11 x 8 feet and contains no text or explanation. Colbert won’t share much when it comes to artistic process and other secrets behind his magic. Instead he chooses to let observers get lost in their own fantasies. The intention is to share the experience of wonder, contemplation, serenity and hope.
More than one million people have experienced Ashes and Snow. After its opening in Venice, it traveled to New York in 2005 and on to Santa Monica in 2006. Currently it’s on its fourth leg at the water’s edge in Tokyo, Japan. “Tokyo is an ocean of concrete surrounded by a body of water,” Colbert says. “The sea is kind of an oasis.” The Japanese have embraced Ashes and Snow, and this leg of the exhibition is on pace to set attendance records. “The response from the visitors here in Japan is different from what we’ve seen anywhere else,” Colbert explains. “They are spending a lot more time. They are going slowly and nobody’s talking. You can hear a pin drop in there. The Japanese are very contemplative and have taken ownership of Ashes and Snow. Many exit the museum and spend some time just sitting outside thinking about it all. I often feel that when I’m in a place that moves me, I don’t need to talk about it. Even lovers when they’re making love - they don’t give you a play by play.”
He views himself as a storyteller, and throughout his travels he’s been able to see the best and worst of what civilization has done to the environment. His art paints one picture, but it’s just part of the story. His own voice is also incredibly powerful: “We’re at a turning point,” he says. “It’s not good morning global warming, it’s good evening global warming. Yes, we are very rich materially. We’re the richest generation, but did we really have the right - three billion years of nature’s evolution - to have this amazing material party, and then wake up and see this big mess of a party and then like an anorexic, not even recognize that we are starving?”
and now I think people have awakened and realized something needs to be done now. Companies are not just products, and they can’t perpetuate stuff that promotes social chaos. In the future, it won’t be about just the product. You have to be a statesman and that will be a requirement for every CEO…” - GREGORY COLBERT
Colbert was born in Canada and raised on a six-nation Indian reservation. The totem art he grew up with featured animal and human faces. “By age eight or nine, Colbert says, “most kids transition out of curiosity about animals and into viewing them as something different or even dangerous. I simply never chose to cross that bridge.” As a result, he never distanced himself from them. His art can be seen as a poetic field study on the glory of nature and the problem with materialism. Ashes and Snow has no final destination. Gregory Colbert intends to spend the rest of his life providing a voice for animals and crusading to clean up the environment they share with us.
“We’ve been lured by modern culture into this cynical mistrust of nature, and it’s obviously left us where we are, as a species, but we are different than other generations because of the conscious choice we will or will not make. If we are no longer oblivious to the scientists’ view or the impact - it’s very quantifiable - what’s the next step? We’re not underwater, but we can feel the undertow. We’re the ones who’ve created the undertow. I guess we’re going to try to swim sideways?” - GREGORY COLBERT

Film adaptations
Main article: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (films)
A two-part film adaptation of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows is planned, with David Yates directing both parts. Part I is slated for release on 19 November 2010, and Part II on 15 July 2011.[86][87] The script was delayed as Steve Kloves was not able to start working on it until the 2007–2008 Writers Guild of America strike had ended.[88] Filming began in February 2009 and will last for a year.[89] John Williams, who composed the scores to the first three films, has expressed interest in returning to score the films.[90]

After the Deathly Hallows?!
Rowling's commentary and supplement
In an interview,[64] online chat,[10][65] the Wizard of the Month section of her website, and during her 2007 U.S. Open Book Tour, Rowling revealed additional character information that she chose not to include in the book. The first bits of information were about the trio and their families, starting with Harry.
She said that Harry became an Auror for the Ministry of Magic, and was later appointed head of the department. He also kept Sirius's motorcycle, which Arthur Weasley repaired for him, but he can no longer speak Parseltongue after the destruction of Voldemort's soul fragment within him. She also said that Ginny Weasley played for the Holyhead Harpies Quidditch team for a time, then left to establish a family with Harry, and later became the lead Quidditch correspondent for the Daily Prophet. Ron Weasley worked at George's store for a time, Weasleys' Wizard Wheezes, and then joined Harry as an Auror. Hermione found her parents in Australia, and removed the memory modification charm she had put on them for safety. Initially, she worked for the Ministry of Magic in the Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures, greatly improving life for house elves. She later moved to the Department of Magical Law Enforcement and assisted in eradicating oppressive, pro-pureblood laws. She was also the only member of the trio to go back and complete her seventh year at Hogwarts. Rowling then went on to explain that Dumbledore's relationship with Gellert Grindelwald extended beyond mere friendship; indeed, Rowling has revealed that "Dumbledore is gay, actually",[66] and harboured romantic feelings for Grindelwald.[67] Next, Rowling revealed the fate of Voldemort. After his death, he was forced to exist in the stunted form Harry witnessed in the King's Cross limbo, as his crimes were too severe for him to become a ghost.
Rowling also explained the fates of several secondary characters, starting with the Weasleys. George Weasley continued his successful joke shop. George married fellow Quidditch player Angelina Johnson and had two children: a son named Fred, in memory of his late twin brother, and a daughter, Roxanne. Next, Rowling proceeded to explain Luna Lovegood's future, saying that she searched the world for odd and unique creatures. She eventually married Rolf, a grandson of the famed naturalist Newt Scamander,[65] writer of Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them. They have twins called Lorcan and Lysander. Her father's publication, The Quibbler, has returned to its usual condition of "advanced lunacy" and is appreciated for its unintentional humour.
Rowling then gave briefer histories on some more of the minor characters, as follows. Draco Malfoy's wife, Astoria (or Asteria), was the younger sister of his Slytherin classmate Daphne Greengrass. Percy Weasley married a woman named Audrey and had two daughters, named Molly and Lucy. Firenze was welcomed back into his herd, who finally acknowledged the virtue of his pro-human leanings. Dolores Umbridge was arrested, interrogated, and imprisoned for crimes against Muggle-borns. Cho Chang went on to marry a Muggle.[68] Viktor Krum found love in his native Bulgaria.[69] Neville Longbottom became professor of Herbology at Hogwarts and married Hannah Abbott, who became the landlady of the Leaky Cauldron.[70] Bill and Fleur Weasley had a total of three children, a younger son named Louis, and two daughters, named Dominique and Victoire.
Rowling also revealed further transformations in the wider wizarding world as follows. Kingsley Shacklebolt became the permanent Minister of Magic, with Percy Weasley working under him as a high official. Among the reforms introduced by Shacklebolt, Azkaban no longer used Dementors. Harry, Ron, and Hermione were also instrumental in reforming the Ministry.[10] At Hogwarts, Slytherin House became more diluted and no longer held the title as the pure-blood bastion it once was, although its dark reputation lingered.[10] Voldemort's jinx on the Defence Against the Dark Arts position was broken with his death, and there was a permanent Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher stated. Harry also is said to come to the Defence Against the Dark Arts class to lecture several times a year.[64] Lastly, Rowling says that a portrait of Snape, who briefly served as Hogwarts Headmaster, had not appeared in the headmaster's office, as he had abandoned his post. Harry then ensures the addition of Snape's portrait, and publicly reveals Snape's true allegiance.[10]
