Was reading Women's Weekly and laughed at Yusof Haslam's comment on his Sembilu 2 that collected RM6 million but still people are calling it a crap.
I am no a movie expert but from a simple citizen of Malaysia who's leading a simple life, this is what I want to watch.
I want to watch a movie that is real, things evolved around our daily life.
Beautiful sexy girls in bikinis swimming at some Datuk's swimming pool are not real, you know how few Datuks have wife(s) as sexy as that. The rest of Datins I've met probably preferred to be seen in Batik Kurung.
Neither couples falling in love in campus, spent each day in library seeing each other, and graduated together wearing the robe and took pictures with future in laws, and then offered a job at their big companies, that's not real. You know how cramp your time is during campus. And you know how dreadful job huntings is.
So wooo.. why filming things which are not real? Is movie a scape for you to dream of the things you only want to see?
I want to watch a movie with simple spoken language.
"Aku bukan perempuan sebegitu!" what crap! You don't speak that way in real world. When you are mad, you can't scramble for the words sebegitu. It goes like, macam tu, or hok cam tu... or a simple cam tu. Sebegitu is like a word you can only find in Karangan Bahasa Melayu Tingkatan 5. Afdlin's movie are all simple spoken language.
I want to watch a movie with purposeful action.
Driving a car fast through the town is showing what? That I am rich and I know how to drive? If you watch Sepet and remember the scene where all the three ladies are seated on staircase and combing each other's hair, and then the bald father came and shoved one of the ladies the comb, isn't that a meaningful scene? No dialogues needed, no proper clothings, no rich cars to show off but it is passionately powerful.
I want to see short but not neccesarily expensive story. An award wining moviesare not neccesarily a must-see.Titanic, Walk the Line are all long dreadful movies. The Man took me for our special monthly date to Walk The Line and all that I was asking is, when is this finishing? The story was painfully long and yet it was a good movie. But do I want to pour my energy and be involved emotinally in the long two hours again? Don't think so. I prefer short meaningful story which will linger around my head at least until I go to bed. My favorite is The Shawshank Redemption.
I want a story without ALIEN.
Please, please, please, aliens don't exist so do predators.Even a two year old knows that and stop fooling and fantasizing around. The only alien story I happen to like is the ID4.
Alien could be defined by things which are not real, do not exist: long snakes, big croc, dinasours, big monkey and other things people fantasize.
I want a movie that can explain death intelligently or explain un-death intelligently.
Do you notice that ten years ago, in any action movies, everybody dies but the hero and the heroin? People by the street can just die by falling into a big drain and the hero, tembak lah macammana pun by any SWAT team, will still come out alive. The bad guy will be battered to death. And then the pattern changed a few years back, hero and heroin could die, too, and leaving the kids mourning. It's all come naturally then, bring me to watch a movie and I can know whether this one will die, whether that one will fall in love with some other people. Even the twist is predictable. All the Korean and some good Indo movies that I've seen are different. You can hardly guess who dies in the end, you don't know whether the ghost can be completely eradicted. In My Best Friend's Wedding, you thought that Jules can steal Michael but then the reality hits us hard, a wedding will still go on.
Note: I saw My Best Friend's Wedding with an old boyfriend, thru half of the story I was so sure Jules can steal Michael back and I said, if she can stop the wedding, I will then marry my old boyfriend. Weird huh.. at the end I was dissapointed that the wedding was still on and look to whom I am married now? :)
Of course, I need to see romantic comedy movies.
I know, I know, these are movies which ending I could predict (and it is mostly true). Hitch, Notting Hill, Almost Love, 13 going 30, Jerry McGuire, any Jennifer Aniston's movies. Two people met, they screwed each other, and then figured out that they are afraid of commitments, then split up. The split up part is the best part, they missed each other like mad, they can't breath, the feeling reminds me of the highschool crush we used to have. Then they met up, have kids and live happily ever after.
Okay, I've laid all on the table! What say me about these recently seen / thought of:
Sepet: Simply the most creative film produced. LOVE IT BIG TIME!
Puteri Gunung Ledang: Beautiful picture, lousy story line. Hate that scene of Hang Tuah fighting in a swamp, irrelevant. Nice research, btw.
Walk The Line: Too long, too long!
Titanic: The song and kill me, fast.
Braveheart: Among the few long painful ones. Uggh!
Lord of the Rings: fast compared to the book's storyline, but scenery was fantastic, the scripts are carefully chosen, one of the great inventions of this century.
Batman Begins: not like the other batman, this one evolves around the moulding of his personality. but there is still a bad guy with chemical weapon to be killed and hero survived at the end , kissing away the heroin. typical!
Enough: The only good thing about J'lo (other than her ass) is this movie. Love it!
The Matrix: twist in the twist, but still the storyline is the bad guy is down, but the fighting scene was creatively careographed.
So Close: Hong Kong Movie but the girls are beautiful and smart and brainy, unlike Hollywood's Angels.
The Village: one of the stories I can't PREDICT. Hat off ! I think all Shamalayan (spelling?) movies are UNPREDICTABLE.
The Bujang Lapok (Pendekar, Seniman and it is): are my favorite classic comedy. "Jolok motorsikal ye bang?", Sadly can't enjoy it with The Man who was n't raised to watch these Bujang Lapoks.
Little Brother : (Korean) Simple meaningful story, it makes you think, when do Malaysian Movie Makers ever want to learn making movies?
There' Something About Mary: Hate it.
Legally Blonde (both): Hate them more.
What say you?
Clipperseep is listening to: again, Norah Jones.
Clipperseep has read the headline today: think so, but couldn't remember what it was, all I could remember is about Michael Douglas bitching about Brad Pitt leaving Jen for Angelina and the orphans! haha..
