Purchasing a house is a major process. For a Malay woman, it is a
labyrinth. I tell you why.
First, you get to make sure that your husband agrees to your ideas. It's
important whether he thinks you are financially eligible. It's important
too that he agrees whether it is a good investment. (Perhaps buying a
house when you are single is a better choice).
You need to take some days off from work. To settle the deposit. To
withdraw some from EPF. Lawyer's apointments. Financier arrangement.
The EPF, lawyer's office and the financiers office are usually in the
middle of the city, where parking was unbelievably insufficient. This is
where you need your husband's agreement to the whole idea so that you
may drag him to sit in the car waiting while you signing up your S&P.Or
dropping the kids to school so that you may rush to see the lawyer
before a Section Meeting scheduled at 10:00.
You, however, can opt to persuasively invite the company's driver
(read: COMPANY'S DRIVER) to drive you to the lawyer's office or the
bank. Doing that, you don't have to take days off from work. Neither you
need to face your husband long nag thru the journey. Coming back from
the lawyer's office, you may ask the driver to park and wait by the bank
for you to withdraw some money, and buy some donuts or something.
A-haaaaaaa...
Unbelievable? Believe it! My colleague has just done so and she is not
yet a Manager. I wonder how many errands she'll ask the company driver
to do for her is she is ever a General Manager. Collecting dry cleaning?
Buying onions for soup for dinner? Or Mercillon?
No wonder the management never consider her for a Manager's post
eventhough she's been knocking on the doors showing off her Master's
scroll. Doesn't she just get it, it's not about the education, it's
about THE attitude and sincerity. Somehow I got a feeling that it isn't
MONEY that she is after, it's the feeling of being a boss.
Then you see, for her, it is not really a labyrinth. Being bossy solves
it all.
